Products & Services

Established as Shutter Design and Installation in Summer 2017, our company was founded by Jason Powell. Working in the office at a leading manufacturer of security shutters and doors in the North West, Jason initiated and completed the ISO 9001 quality system; CHAS safety system; BS EN standards compliance; design and development of Secured by Design products with LPCB (Building Research Establishment - BRE Global); manufacturing software; and the creation of a range of steel shutters and doors. This creativity and success was due to our being part of the family at a small to medium sized enterprise.

We set up the new company, in Chester, to develop new electronic products, and to install garage doors and security shutters and doors in our region, as part of a new generation's attempt to continue the tradition of excellent manufacturing and engineering. See our team below.

Roller Security Shutters

Roller security shutters have the advantage of taking up minimal room in any commercial or domestic setting. The side guide channels are situated to the top of the door frame, and are usually around 90mm wide. All the working gear of the door is then located above the opening, inside a steel or aluminium housing - around 300 - 400mm square. Powder coating, a variety of motorisation options and controls, and confirmed anti-intrusion properties are standard in this type of model. Find out more...

Roller Garage Doors

Roller garage doors are composed of a 77mm aluminium slat, as standard. A wide colour range, including wood effect finishes, is standard. Roller doors are controlled by wireless handsets with a variety of standard features, such as an alarm, courtesy light, and safety edge. The door can be fitted to the face or the reveal of an opening, and rolls into a 300mm box. All parts are powder coated, and the main door is finished with a hard wearing lacquer. The standard model is supplied with a 5 year warranty on parts, and a certified Secured by Design rating against intrusion. The roller door is particularly useful for space saving and minimal movement of parts and safety of use. Find out more...

Hormann Sectional Garage Doors

Sectional garage doors open vertically upwards and are suspended under the ceiling to save space. This construction principle means you can make full use of the space inside and in front of the garage. Sectional garage doors can be fitted in any garage opening and offer up to 14 cm more passage width than up and over doors. They are also optimally sealed with flexible and weather-resistant seals on all four sides.

Treat yourself to this comfort and convenience. Find out more...

“I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John, 10) In these words, the… Read More

Gentle reader, the attached video represents a little study of the leading optical safety edge technology. And, a method of replicating or hacking it. The video is not the best quality, but if you are moved by such things as this, I hope you will have patience.

Prior to the statement of the Creed in the Orthodox tradition of Christianity, the Priest or Deacon demands that a guard watch the doors. This ancient saying is included in the liturgy so that, at the time when the faithful declare their faith, and prior to the presentation of the eucharstic gifts, there can be… Read More

I attach a video demonstration of a recent project. The tubular motor for roller blinds encloses a small induction motor. Due to its size, it gets hot very quickly. It has various built in features: Thermal overload protection Built in brake to allow doors to remain open or half-open Capacitor for fluent start and run… Read More

Yes, this motor is a beauty. While playing one of Bach’s two part Inventions the other day, I heard my washing machine give out a huge groan. I had left it on, rolling about while I played the piano. On concluding my playing, I went into the kitchen to find a pall of smoke and… Read More

Yes, it is! Sorry for this post, stuffed full of information and locations where we have fitted and repaired in the last week or so. I even stuff them into a single post like so many presents in Father Christmas’s sack. It wouldn’t even be possible to steal and make use of these images, dear… Read More

Following on from our post about hot wiring a key switch, in which we showed that the ones we use don’t break open when you apply a hammer to them, we would like now to show how to wire them up. Obviously, there is a logic behind this, but if you don’t do a few… Read More

SDI design circuit boards for – among other things – garage door control. The PCB here is photographed on an engineer’s formica table; that is a consequence of the honest marketing skills of an engineer, I am sure. The board shown is the main control system for our Symbolic Instruments panel. Populated sparingly as shown,… Read More

Another post showing some garage doors, and industrial and commercial sorts of roller and sectional things, in photos. I write about them like some kind of Trump, the voice of the angry working man, saying what comes into my slighty prejudiced head, in a Twitter sort of post. What is usually in evidence in these… Read More

.. still type this out, after working our fingers to the bone. That is, fitting these lovely garage doors, shown above and below. But I won’t let the pictures speak for themselves. Here is David Lynch’s Dale Cooper. The good Dale is in the Lodge, and he can’t leave. So, here, the other one, inhabited by Bob, is seen in front of a roller shutter, in this world. He is searching for Philip Jeffreys, and the Black Lodge. See Twin Peaks, episode one.

We generally do repairs wherever professionalism and dedication to customer service is needed, that is, where a plague of poor service has insinuated itself into an area. So, here we see jobs where our skills were put to use in the name of rectification work. Obviously, in a capitalist economy such as ours, where an… Read More
